Web design for Mollymook businesses

More than a third of the houses here are empty on an ordinary night. Your customer is not in town. They are somewhere else, deciding, and your website is the only part of the business they can see.

The trading pattern

A third of the houses are empty, and so is a lot of the year

Across Mollymook and Mollymook Beach, more than a third of private dwellings were unoccupied on census night. The state figure is about one in ten. The median age is the highest of any town on this coast.

That single statistic explains most of what is difficult about trading here. The residential base is small, older and quiet. The money arrives in bursts, from people who do not live here, who booked in advance, and who will be gone inside a week.

So the ordinary local-business advice does not apply. There is no steady stream of passing regulars to build on and there is no point optimising for somebody standing outside, because for most of the year nobody is. Everything depends on being found and chosen by somebody who is not here yet.

The booking

If you take bookings, the booking is the website

For accommodation, a restaurant, a charter or a lesson, every other page exists to move somebody one step closer to a booking. So that step gets designed first and the rest of the site is built around it.

In practice that means the booking button is visible without scrolling, on every page, on a phone. It means the flow does not ask anybody to create an account. It means whatever system you already use, we work with it rather than making you change, because a booking engine migration in November is how a season gets lost.

It also means answering the planning questions before they are asked, because every one you leave unanswered is a reason to book the other place. How far to the beach and the shops. Parking. Dogs. Minimum stay. Check-in time. Whether you are open midweek in winter. Those are not FAQ page material, they are the product.

The off-season

The months nobody builds a website for

Here is the number that should change what you spend and when. Across the Shoalhaven, overnight visitation in the cooler months has grown by something close to sixty-five per cent over the past decade. Peak-season nights grew by about five.

Almost nobody is marketing into that. The industry's whole rhythm is built around the summer, so the shoulder and the winter are contested by a fraction of the operators competing in January, against demand that is growing more than ten times faster.

For a Mollymook business that means the off-season is the cheapest growth available, and it is almost entirely a content and search job rather than an advertising one. What is there to do here in August. Why a midweek stay is better. What is open when the crowds are not. That work takes months to compound, which is precisely why the sensible time to start it is in the quiet part of the year. SEO Meta ads

The village up the hill trades on exactly the opposite pattern, and we build for that too. Web design in Milton

Working further afield

Questions about working outside your own town.

The same five come up wherever we are on this coast, so they are answered once here rather than eighty slightly different times.

Will people in the next town along still find us?

That depends on whether your site ever mentions them, and most do not. Search results shift with where the person is standing, so a business that only ever names its own town tends to vanish about fifteen minutes up the road. The fix is usually structural rather than a rewrite.

How do you decide which towns are worth a page and which are not?

On whether we can write something true about that town that would not also be true of the one next to it. If we cannot, we do not build the page, because a run of near-identical pages with the name swapped is something search engines actively demote, and the damage lands on the whole site rather than the pages that caused it. Where the honest answer is one page instead of five, we say so.

We are the only business of our kind for half an hour in either direction. Does any of this matter?

It matters differently. You are not fighting a competitor down the street, you are fighting the assumption that nobody nearby does this at all, which sends people further afield before they ever look properly. Being unmistakably present across the whole stretch is worth more to you than outranking anybody.

Our customers drive to us rather than the other way round. Does that change anything?

Yes, and it is the thing most sites have backwards. If people travel to you, the page has to lead with where you are and how long it takes to get there. If you travel to them, it has to lead with how far you go. Very few sites answer either question at all, which is why the ones that do get the call.

What happens if we stop covering an area?

Tell us and we take it down properly, which means the page, the internal links and the service area list all change in the same pass. Claiming somewhere you no longer go is a poor experience for the person who rings, and it eventually becomes a ranking problem as well.

Next stepGet it sorted before the season, not during it

The worst time to rebuild an accommodation or hospitality website is the week you get busy. Tell us what the site has to do and we will quote it, and if the honest answer is that it needs three fixes rather than replacing, we will say that instead.

The quote is free, fixed in writing and yours to sit on. Nobody here will ring you every Tuesday about it.
